City of Hamilton Public Health provides services related to preventing and protecting humans from rabies.

Rabies is real and here, in Hamilton. While there have been few confirmed cases of rabies in cats, community cats are still at risk for contracting rabies from wildlife or bats and possibly infecting humans. When cats are put through HBSPCA’s TNVR program, they are rabies vaccinated. Best practices should be followed when feeding and trapping community cats to keep you safe. Report potential exposures due to animal bites or scratches to public health by calling 905-546-2489. Read more about rabies here: Hamilton Public Health Website- Wildlife

Community Relations

Speaking with community members is an important step when conducting TNVR. To help your cats be better neighbours, kindness and understanding are key. If neighbours complain, find out what about the cats is bothering them and work with them to remedy the issues. As always, reach out if you need support.
